November 1866

Tuesday 6th. Went to Charley Brown's to a sewing bee—very pleasant day—has been some day.

Thursday 8th. Carrier commenced painting our cellar. Pleasant.

Saturday 10th. Had men chopping. C. worked in shop.

Sunday 11th. Warm a little rain. Mr. Pratt came here.

Monday 12th. Pleasant. Lucina and Sammy went to Hornellsville. Elisa and Mr. Pratt was here all day. Lucina and Sam was married the 12th day of November, 1866.

Sam or Sammy is Samuel Punches. During the period of the Journal that is missing Lucina had gone to work for the Punches, and shortly marries their only son.

December 1866

Monday 31st. The last day of this year has passed away and it is seven o'clock in the evening. I have been looking up our affairs a little. Have got very nervous but hope to feel better if I should live to see one year from tonight—hope for better times and smaller debts. (Debts $235, Credits $217.)

January 1867

Tuesday 1st. We got up bright and early, done chores and went to Bennettsville. Visited John Olmstead—had a fine time. Got Willie a pair of shoes, 1 gal. molasses, 1 gal. Kerosene, half a pound…[tobacco?].

Wednesday 2nd. Fine weather. Stayed home and sewed all day.

Thursday 3rd. Went to sewing society. Had a loud time.

Friday 4th. Staid to home all day. Baked some. Mrs. P. called.

Saturday 5th. Went down to Mr. Jones, called to L. Creasey.

Sunday 6th. Lucina and Sammy and Sim Turner and his wife was here.

Monday 7th. Spent the day sewing. Helpt Charles skid logs.

Tuesday 8th. Spent the day as usual—house work, and mending.

Wednesday 9th. At home, Willie sick.

Thursday 10th. At home, Willie still sick.

Friday 11th. Went over to Carriers to sewing bee.

Saturday 12th. At home.

Sunday 13th. Went over to Punches'—all hands.

Monday 14th.Cold. Went over to Charley's. Eddy and I. Left Willie with Pa.

Tuesday 15th. Washed, Mrs. Frisbee was here to dinner today.

Wednesday 16th. Brother Edward and his sister came here tonight. Glad to see them.

Thursday 17th.Cold. Spent the day visiting. Brother E. and S. left here tonight. C. and Lina here in afternoon.

Friday 18th.Very blustery. Went to Sewing Society—met at Levi Creasey's. A good time.

Saturday 19th. Stayed home by fire—awful cold weather today.

Sunday 20th. Cold and drifted. Lucina came home.

Monday 21st. Washed.

Tuesday 22nd. Lu went to C. E's. Cold.

Wednesday 23rd. E. Ordway and wife here.

Thursday 24th. Went to M. P's—sewed on C. E's pants.

Friday 25th. At home. Some warmer.

Saturday 26th. Cleaned the ceiling and doors. C. went to Bennettsville.

Sunday 27th. Lucina's birthday—19 years old today. Very blustery.

Monday 28th. Worked and cleaned parlor. Colored linings. Narcess here.

Tuesday 29th. Lu put on her log cabin quilt. Lina and Chas. E. was here.

Wednesday 30th. Lucina went back to Mr. Punches. Put on quilt.

Thursday 31st. The Sewing Society met here today. Quilted on L's quilt.

February 1867

Friday 1st. Warmer, thawed some. I got off Lu's quilt and put on mine.

Saturday 2nd. Warm, finished quilting at 4 o'clock. Feel very tired.

Sunday 3rd. Colder. Eddy went to C. E's. Stayed all night. Chas. and I went up to Brown's.

Monday 4th. Pleasant forenoon. I washed, churned, called to M. P's. cut carpet rags.

Tuesday 5th. Went to Levi's to a quilting with Mrs. Comfort, Charles and Mr. Comfort.

Wednesday 6th. Went over to Charley's. Lucia and Sammy came home.

Thursday 7th. Went over to Thurston, stayed to Aunt Keith's to dinner. Went to Merchantsville in afternoon.

Friday 8th. Came home. Warmer, thawed a good deal. Went over to Charley's.

Saturday 9th. C. and Lina had a daughter born this morning [Nellie]. Rainy.

Sunday 10th. Stayed at Charley's.

Monday 11th. Came home, Eddy went after Lucina.

Tuesday 12th. Went to Sim's and Mark's.

Wednesday 13th. Went to Charley's.

Thursday 14th. At Charley's. Went to Sewing Society.

Friday 15th. Came home with a bad cold.

Saturday 16th. John Olmstead and wife here to dinner. Received our tea of Stuart's.

Sunday 17th. Went to Meeting.

Monday 18th. Washed. Lucina went to Frank Hawkins.

Tuesday 19th. Went to Julia Butler's visiting.

Wednesday 20th. Stayed at home. C. went to Adrian.

Thursday 21st. Went to Warren Downs' visiting with Mrs. Powell. Elisa here tonight.

Friday 22nd. Cold and blustery. Called to Mile's this afternoon. Found our pigs.

Saturday 23rd. C. went to Canisteo. Eddy went to Big Flats. Elle was here.

Sunday 24th. Our heifer brought a calf. We went over to C. E's and called to Levi's.

Wednesday 27th. Charles worked to C. E's, drawing wood. Mr. J. Helmer and wife and girls was here.

Thursday 28th. Went to C. Brown's to Sewing Society but knit this time.
